Delta Redux 11-19 and 11-20-11

Picked the Dirty D apart Saturday and Sunday. Have 20 plus for Turkey day so wife was doing prep so got the pass for the weekend. Dangerous Trebles joined me Saturday for an early AM start. We motored big west and experienced a slow day working from Broad to Franks and points between. Ran across Spooled in the maze and waked him. Long day working:

Lost a teener in South Franks at last light Saturday evening. Fish went shock and awe on the bone spook and showed us it’s massive tail before saying goodbye.

Stellman and brother Randy joined me Sunday for cloud show on the delta. 11:00 TO 5 pm shift. Wind pumping cut down our options. Had some action on the SJ east of Antioch bridge. Three hot sticks on board for SLOOOOOOOOOOW results.

Delta Flyer 11-12 and 11-13-11

Last minute go ahead by the boss lady Friday night and  last minute cancellations Saturday night left me solo Saturday and Sunday. Saturday I wantonly plugged Mandys and Mildreds holes. South and east was not happening. I POUNDED her from noon till last call at Russos (5:00 PM) and had little to show. Back at it Sunday. Ran so far west I swear I could see the golden gate. Best fight of the day was a HUGE pike minnow/sguaw fish thing. Disgusting. Managed several schoolies on the chrome blue rattle trap and fish trap. Couple of slaps on the spook. Worked Sherman, West Island, Broad slough, spoonbill, Suisun area, Big Break, little and big franks. Excellent weekend on the dirty D with not much to show but scenery shots.

delta wasteland 11-6-11

Debra and I did punched through the low overcast on Vasco to a 10:00 AM Russos tractor launch. Mid 50’s , no wind and half cloud. We dropped our pots and headed out for some bass fishin.

delta splendor

Tried a couple of spots in Franks as deep down I want to avert the oil crisis by fishing local. Very quiet. Ran west all the way to Broad. Lunch in the middle of Sherman. Safeway sammys. WTF? Off color water out west. Action was non-sxistent. Stopped in the break. DEAD.

Little franks gave up a nice size green bass which chose not to be boated. Debra stifles a yawn and breaks out the Martha Stewart Thanksgiving magazine and I know I am bombing at that point.  Spent the last couple of hrs in Franks without the slightest look at anything we were throwing. Strange. Only action was Methel Island RVBQ exploding meth lab on wheels on the bridge.

Mobile Meth Lab

Enjoyed being out on the water with my baby.

New Melones 2011 Shakedown 10-29-11

Debra ran the sandwich string Friday night for a party of 5. Egg salad, ham, turkey and cheese.

Master at work here

We usually even get our names on the bags but she is slipping. We hit the launch at 9 to xlnt bluebird wx

burning ball

We saw the north ramp was open so we ran Angels creek instead of our usual Carson creek run.

2 pedal yaks and a tin can ready for battle. Ken, Brian, Mike G, my son and I.

Rampage

The nice man at Glory Hole set me up with diver and cop car needle fish. It worked.

Spots were on it at 30 feet. If I would have stopped and dragged worms I probably could have racked up the spots.

Spot on

The diver had me dragging bottom at 35 feet which is where the spotz were.First time using a diver and I was surprised at how effective it was getting down to specific depths.

nuther

Ran back to  a bay just before the Angels creek arm and picked up a salmonid. Is this a Koke?

Fairly slow day but I knew it was early for Melons.

Small wet spot

Off the water before sunset. Need a good storm to bring the trout up.

Pyramid 10-21 22 2011 Your fly is down

Mike, Brian and I rolled into Reno Thursday evening and checked into the Nugget. Steak dinner and a bit of wagering ensued. Early start Friday morning. B gets a topwater fly hit

Overall slow day with a lot of water covered.

Back to reno and moved to Harrahs. Had bitchin Pho dinner at 777 and back to the tables. Saturday am saw us back at the lake before dawn and the action was better. Mike was clearly the hot stick. Beetles, spoons and buggers were working.

I was on fire with the camera

Mike got 6, Chilly maybe 4 and me 2. Rolled for home this morning sore and sunburnt.

Here is my piddly minnow

Delta 10-9-11 Does Size Matter?

Randy and I tractored launched in Russos at a leisurely noonish and headed due west. Had a PM from Team Slug Bug that west was slow but had to make the run anyways or I would not have slept well. Weather pretty spectacular 70 degrees virtually no wind and 3 hrs left of incoming. Early October, great sammys and fat tires on ice we wuz suitably amped. Arrived at the back door to Sherman only to find these guys POACHING ALL OVER MY SHIT!

Team Slug Bug

These Hamachi eatin pirates were on a 2.5 day binge and we crossed paths a couple of times. They headed east while we pushed out to Broad sure that the pirates had missed our fish in our weeds but there was no life there. We tried several spots in the middle of Sherman and bounced into the SJ to fish West Island and various north bank stretches. ZIP! Pointers, rattle Traps,  and big hammers all ignored. Tried topwater everywhere we went as we’z jus plain ornery about that. Explored the  middle and south bays of Big break. Great looking clean water. Found bait in a mid bay hole and had steady action on top but no size.

Manioc

Green trout and stripers mixed all up. Bounced for Little Franks and ran into Tomo’s crew again, still slow for them as well. Great to meet Michelle, Tom and Carlo. Wound up in the north franks area for sunset. Found bait and birds thick and worked it for an hr but all small fish. Moved to another inlet where some fly guys had camped for the last 4 hrs. Randy got the kind with a toilet flush right at sunset with a hot estimated 15# fish on bone spook that buried him FAST in the weeds and she was gone. Was an almost full moon so would like to blame the slow day on that.

Delta 9-28-11 Hot and Cold

Weather was hot, fishing was cold. Launched from Russos at noon with Ken. Ran straight west to Broad.

Incoming tide just started. No wind and bluebird skies. Tried several spots in Broad and Sherman working Rattle traps, jerkbaits and the occasional topwater.

Couple of dinks. Started working our way back late afternoon hitting the south bowls of Big Break, Eddos and the shoals in 3 mile. Zippo with no fluid. Made the east circuit Franks, Mandy and Mildred. Hyacinth breaking up and on the move made navigating sort of like pinball.

Dog with no bone.

Back to Franks at dusk and we have bait and fish busting hard for an hour

Problem: all small fish .

Enjoyed a peaceful sunset

Tried Circle your Wagons

Hung it up at around 7:00.

Little crispy today.

Delta Rodeo 9-24-11

Tractor launched solo at 11:00 AM from Russos to 20 MPH winds. Ran a short ways and got a little wet. Some cool looking cirrus clouds all day.

Tried the River2Sea Dahlberg Wide Glide but it did not look right in the chop. Switched to the spook and had one hit it from below and knock it into the air. I let it sit and twitched and she launched herself out of the water shock and awe style and landed on it and hooked herself.

Got another flush and take a short time later.

Stuck to the 2 Franks ducking the wind and riding rodeo on the bow. Off the water early.

Delta 9-17-11 ER Visit

Randy, Dangerious and I tractor launched at 10:00 am and ran all the way to Honker with a few stops in between. The roof, the roof, the roof was on fire.

Nothing but chocolate out west so we lunched in spoonbill

Had some brushes with greatness in Sherman on the way back but no stick. All the way back to Franks for witching hour. R starts us off.

Dangerious lays the wood to a mama

The Mike is on fire

Steady action for 2 hrs until R impales himself forcing a hasty retreat and subsequent ER dropoff.
