Henny and Mike met Debra and I at the Grand Sierra in Reno Friday night for a Halloween getaway. Dinner at Palmers Steakhouse was a hit nicely accopanied with a bottle of Syrah. After some Gamboling I slipped off to the room for a relatively early night. Mike and I headed out at 5:30 AM Saturday for the home of the Lahontan Cutthroat Trout, Pyramid lake. Rumors of big winds early had me worried as I had never boated here before. We started trolling near Pelican at first light. Bleeding Frog u20 kwikfish between 40-60 feet. Plenty of marks but slow.
There was some breeze but we decided to run to the Pyramid for a look. 2/3rds of the way the lake became quite sporty but we pressed on.
It was my first trip to the east side and it is certainly geologically awe inspiring. We beat back to the west side near Warrior and started getting some action.
We trolled many hours for a couple fish and a few lost opportunities as the cloud show unfolded.
Late afternoon the sky went psychedelic for a couple of hours. Amazing color show.
We continued on to Warrior Point
A view of the Needles to the North emerged.
I put down my camera long enough to net Mike’s fish.
The Sky continued to evolve and show off.
The storm was rolling in slowly but we escaped the predicted heavy winds
The Black Helicopter started circling and later we found out someone had a very bad day on the lake.
We put the boat back on the trailer at around 5 and made the drive back to Reno.
Once back in Reno we met the ladies fresh from Spa Day and went downtown for the Halloween Freak Show and were not disappointed. No pics of the revelers.
It was raining HARD coming over Donner Pass Sunday morning. Hope this is a recurring theme.
